The Bakery Photographic Collective announces the 9th annual Photo A Go-Go, a silent auction featuring work from a diverse and important photographic and artistic community. Images from many nationally recognized photographers working in Maine and throughout the country will be auctioned with low and affordable starting bids. This opportunity to buy work from artists in the collections of major museums should not be missed.
Featured artists include: Scott Peterman, Tanja Alexia Hollander, Siri Kaur, Andrew Cross, Mark Marchesi, Greta Bank, Tonee Harbert, Joni Sternbach, Keliy Anderson-Staley, Nat May, and more than 170 other photographers.
The Bakery Photographic Collective is a not-for-profit artist run photographic facility based in Westbrook, Maine at the historic Dana Warp Mill. Grown out of a need for a shared, functional workspace, it has evolved into a full-service photographic facility and a model for shared artistic resources. The energy and enthusiasm for photography that the members of the collective share, culminates every year in Photo a Go-Go, the largest recurring photography event in Maine.
This year, 2009, the Bakery Photographic Collective celebrates its 10th anniversary Photo a Go-Go with pleasure, pride and with full acknowledgement of all the help and support from our community and membership. We have grown tremendously since our first year. Membership has increased from 5 to almost 20 (plus 8 interns), the number of darkrooms has gone from 4 to 6, square footage has increased from 800 to 3000, and we now have a complete digital lab. We have also seen our library grow, hosted artist lectures, taught workshops in house and in the community, and started an artist in residence program. Most importantly, the number or artists donating their images to Photo a Go-Go has gone from 30 to more than 170.
The images in this year’s Photo a Go-Go speak for themselves and are the result of our coming together in the space at the mill to work, think and share. Once again, we are overwhelmed by the generosity of those who have donated their images. We are proud to say that these photographers come from all over the country and they represent a great diversity of style and form.
Photo A Go-Go is sponsored by: annery Properties, Zero Station, Geary’s Brewing, Standard Baking Co., Coffee by Design, RMS Disability, Portland Color, Hunts and Photomarket
